Action Alert: Start the Transition Process!

Call your senator and tell them to demand the GSA begin the formal transition process.

 Over 153 million people voted and Joe Biden won -- but a little-known government agency is holding up the transition process. 

Emily Murphy, the administrator of the General Services Administration (GSA) and a Trump appointee, is refusing to sign documents that would allow the formal transition to a Biden administration to begin. She is holding up an established legal process that takes place whenever a new president is elected. 

By refusing to acknowledge the clear results of the election and begin the formal transition, the GSA is ignoring decades of precedent. But even worse, the delay puts our national security and health at risk in the middle of a pandemic. Emily Murphy is wasting valuable time that the Biden transition team could spend on planning for vaccine distribution or the replenishment of our national stockpile of medical supplies, all because she won’t accept the will of the American people.

This situation is both outrageous and dangerous. It’s time to make sure our elected officials stand up for our democracy and do something about it, Omar. Call your senator and tell them to demand the GSA begin the formal transition process now.

Our country is in the middle of a national health and economic crisis -- and it’s getting worse. President-elect Joe Biden and his transition team have a tremendous amount of work to do over the next two months to prepare to take over the reigns of government and begin to lead us out of this crisis. But they need information to do that, and they can’t get it until the formal transition process begins.
